Lettuce is an annual plant that is most often grown as a leafy vegetable, but sometimes it is grown for its stem and seeds. Lettuce is most often used for salads, although it can be used in a lot of ways including soups, sandwiches and wraps; it can also be grilled. The Cosmo Romaine Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) grows 12" tall heads of vibrant green, broad, leaves that are crisp and sweet. This variety stays bitter-free longer than others.
