Chives (Allium schoenoprasum) is a species of flowering plants that produces edible leaves and flowers. Their close relatives include common onions, garlic, shallot, leeks and scallions. Grow indoors or outdoors for year-round onion flavoring. Use the chopped hollow leaves and young flowers to add flavor and decorative garnish to salads or potatoes. Wonderful for flavoring soups and omelets.
