Tomato - Organic San Marzano
The San Marzano Tomato (solanum lycopersicum) or "long roma-type" tomatoes, are 3-4 oz. fruits with pointed ends. The San Marzano produces very productive 6 foot tall plants which have a good resistance to diseases. It is an excellent canning variety of tomato and it's great for recipe's like spaghetti and pizza sauce. Classic Italian favorite with high yields; excellent richly flavored tomato for preserving. Prized for its firm pulp, low seed count and easily-removed skin.
Growing Info: 85-90 days to mature after germination. Start seeds indoors in a sunny location 6 weeks prior to warm weather. Transplant outdoors in full sun when seedlings display 4-6 leaves and the weather is warm. Seeds can be sown directly into the garden when soil is warm. Tomatoes cannot tolerate frost.
Suggestions: To keep fruit clean and easier to pick, support with stakes or cages. Tomatoes require at least an inch of water per week.
Health Benefits: Tomatoes are the major dietary source of the antioxidant lycopene, which has been linked to many health benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and cancer. Tomatoes are also a great source of vitamin C, potassium, folate, and vitamin K
